As a brander I completely agree, but as someone who wants to help a visitor triangulate our product line with something they are familair with I have to disagree. I sold products which competed with a top 5 software provider and readily provided comparison charts to their products and then highlighted the price difference. This quickly let the visitor understand what we were offering and make a decision if it was worth spending 1/10th the amount on a comparable product.
It worked brilliantly. Now, I also had several other low cost competitors. Did I include them in the comparison, absolutely not.
